This is a personal site run by Ron Jansen from the Netherlands. It exists to publish essays, not to collect data. Here is everything it touches.
Analytics
Page views are counted with Plausible Analytics, a cookieless, EU-hosted service. It records aggregate numbers only (page, referrer, country, device class) and cannot identify you. There is no consent banner because nothing is stored on your device and no personal data is kept. If you block it, the site works exactly the same.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address is stored by Buttondown and used for one thing: sending you new essays. Every email has an unsubscribe link, which deletes you from the list. Nothing else is done with the address.
Your browser
The light/dark theme choice is kept in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device. No cookies are set by this site.
Hosting
The site is static and served from Amazon CloudFront. Like any web server, the CDN may keep short-lived access logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL) for operating and securing the service.
